Our surroundings
Sanctuary@Waratah is the perfect base from which to enjoy the infinite variety of things to do in the area.
For those who want to be active, there is swimming, surfing and beach walking at Sandy Point, windsurfing, boating and fishing at Shallow Inlet, walking or cycling the Great Southern Rail Trail from Leongatha to Foster or the Grand Ridge Rail Trail at Mirboo North, playing golf at Meeniyan or Foster or bush walking in Wilson's Prom.
For the less energetic, a few pleasant hours may be whiled away by visiting the local winery (Waratah Hills), a boutique microbrewery at Mirboo North or art galleries in Fish Creek (Celia Rosser, Gecko and Alison Lester).
If it is food you are after, then you could take in one of the three local weekend farmers' markets and put a picnic together. Or you could start off with morning coffee at The Greenhouse in Foster, go onto enjoy lunch at Koonwarra Food Store and finish with afternoon tea at The Rusty Windmill in Leongatha. Of course, there is always lunch on the Long Jetty with fish & chips from the Port Welshpool General Store.
A Saturday morning trip to Foster is always worthwhile. A spot of pampering never goes amiss and the team at Essential Body Basics will look after you from top to toe. The inner man (or woman) is catered for at Aherns Fruit Market, greengrocer, gourmet deli and health food shop par excellence. Browse in Main Street Revelations for a little something - jewellery, clothes, scented candles - for yourself.
